SkinMedica, XIFIN finish near top in Technology Fast 50

Carlsbad's SkinMedica and Carmel Valley-based XIFIN led the list of North County companies recognized
as the 50 fastest-growing in San Diego County. The San Diego Technology Fast 50 awards event honoring these
companies was held Thursday.
SkinMedica, XIFIN and 14 other North County companies made the 2005 list of fastest-growing companies.
The companies were ranked by percentage revenue growth from 2000-04. SkinMedica ranked third with revenue
growth of 4,467 percent. XIFIN ranked fifth with 3,414 percent revenue growth. Active Motif of Carlsbad
finished sixth, with 2,789 percent growth.
San Diego-based NuVasive ranked first, with 73,752 percent revenue growth. Another San Diego-based company,
BakBone Software, placed second, with growth of 7,944 percent.
Other North County companies in the list include: Digirad Corp., e.Digital Corp., Neurocrine Biosciences,
Invitrogen Corp., American Technologies, Viasat Inc., St. Bernard Software, ResMed Corp., Dot Hill Systems, dj
Orthopedics, SeraCare Life Sciences Inc., Natural Alternatives International, and NTN Communications Inc.
To be considered, participants must have operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 2000 and at least $1 million
in 2004, be headquartered in San Diego County, and be a technology company (including life sciences).
The list is presented by Deloitte & Touche LLP, Brown Thompson Executive Search and Comerica. Other presenters
are Cooley Godward LLP, Corporate Real Estate Advisors, Focus Creative, KPBS, Marsh, and Shoreline Press. The
American Electronics Association and Biocom also took part.
