XIFIN has added the 2012 CPT codes to all test codes with an effective date of January 1, 2012. Please remember you need to update the tests associated with deleted codes to a valid 2012 CPT code. Failure to make the update will result in unbillable NOTESTPROC errors that will need to be manually cleared by your billing staff. The deleted codes are listed below:

Effective for dates of service on or after May 1, 2008, in regards to CPT-4 codes 80061 (lipid panel test) and 83721 (LDL cholesterol test), if the triglyceride level of the recipient is less than 400 mg/dl and both CPT-4 codes 80061 and 83721 are billed on the same date of service, for the same recipient, and by the same provider, the claim will be subject to a combination audit that will cut back the reimbursement so as only code 80061 is reimbursed.

CPT-4 Codes 88147 and 88148 may now be billed with modifiers. Retroactive for dates of service on or after October 1, 2006, CPT-4 codes 88147 (cytopathology smears, cervical or vaginal; screening by automated system under physician supervision) and 88148 (screening by automated system with manual rescreening under physician supervision) are split-billed and may be billed with modifiers 26, TC or ZS. Claims denied inappropriately or paid incorrectly will be re-processed.

There is only one crosswalk for 2010. CPT 86780 will replace CPT code 86781. XIFIN Customer Service will be sending you a list of tests associated with 86871 so that you can update the tests to correspond to the new 2010 CPT Code, if appropriate.

If you do not make the updates for the crosswalked CPT codes by December 31, 2009, any accessions with a DOS on or after January 1, 2010 that use the changed CPT codes will go to EP and will have to be cleared by your billing staff.
