Aetna clarifies which laboratories will be affected by its reimbursement cuts

Aetna announced significant cuts it was implementing for pathology services effective July 1st of this year.  Those cuts will bring reimbursement for many pathology services down to 45-50% of current Medicare rates. Both the CAP and Laboratory Economics asked Aetna for more information about who will be affected by these cuts and Aetna clarified the new rates will apply only to Aetna’s nationally-contracted labs.  If your lab is not one of Aetna’s nationally-contracted labs, you will not be affected by the cuts.  For those interested, the full list of Aetna’s national labs can be found here.
