Medicare Advantage and Sequestration

While CMS implemented the reductions in reimbursement April 1, 2013, BCBS Alabama will not pass this reduction in payment on to providers until August 15, 2013. All providers who supply items or provide services to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Blue Advantage® members who are reimbursed based on the Medicare reimbursement methodology or the Medicare allowable rate or fee schedule will be subject to the same sequestration reduction in reimbursement effective August 15, 2013. The sequestration reduction will continue only so long as applied by CMS. The claims payment adjustment will be applied to all claims after determining coinsurance, any applicable deductible and any applicable Medicare Secondary Payment adjustments.
