PET Diagnostic Agents Flutemetamol and Florbetaben Now Medi-Cal Benefits

Effective for dates of service on or after July 1, 2016, HCPCS codes Q9982 (flutemetamol f18 diagnostic) and Q9983 (florbetaben f18 diagnostic) are Medi-Cal benefits. Both flutemetamol f18 and florbetaben f18 are radioactive diagnostic agents indicated for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of the brain to estimate β-amyloid neuritic plaque density in adult patients with cognitive impairment who are being evaluated for Alzheimer’s disease and other causes of cognitive decline.
