VisualShare [XIFIN ProNet] dramatically increases throughput by shortening the image review cycle and streamlines reporting for accreditation.

Success Story

The University of Utah Microscopy Facility uses XIFIN ProNet (formerly VisualShare™) for EM microscopic diagnostic imaging of kidney biopsies. The process begins when a pathologist sends a tissue biopsy to the laboratory, where it is processed and queued for imaging by an electron microscope technician. Before XIFIN ProNet, lab technicians would manually collect and print the tissue processing data and images and deliver the results via courier to the pathologist for review. The pathologist would unpack and review the contents, interpret the data, make notes and annotate the images, repackage the contents and send the entire package back to the technician. This process is inefficient and costly for both the pathologist and the laboratory.

XIFIN ProNet drastically improves the process by digitizing the data collection and image sharing processes. With XIFIN ProNet, the technician is able to enter and link the tissue processing data to the digital images in an electronic environment. Once the imaging is complete the system notifies the pathologist (via email and text message) that there are images to be reviewed, the pathologist logs into the system and reviews and interprets the images with the technician by adding visual annotations and clinical notes to the record. Once the pathologist has completed the interpretation and review, XIFIN ProNet notifies the lab that the case is complete. XIFIN ProNet digitizes the entire process, thereby increasing the productivity and efficiency of the pathologist and laboratory.
