2014 ICD-10-CM Official Coding Guidelines Released

Updated guidelines for coding and reporting the ICD-10-CM were released by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). The guidelines are used in conjunction with the coding and sequencing instructions in the Tabular List and Alphabetic Index of ICD-10-CM itself. The official ICD-10-CM guidelines provide users with additional coding instruction. Coding with ICD-10-CM requires familiarity with the coding instructions and guidelines that direct code assignment.
