Bipartisan RESULTS Act Introduced in U.S. Senate to Protect Seniors’ Access to Diagnostic Tests

September 10, 2025

A bipartisan group of U.S. Senators, led by Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), has introduced the Reforming and Enhancing Sustainable Updates to Laboratory Testing Services (RESULTS) Act. The bill seeks to ensure seniors maintain reliable access to vital laboratory tests by reforming the current Medicare payment system for diagnostics. Specifically, the legislation aims to address reimbursement instability stemming from the Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA) and prevent deep cuts to lab test payments that could disrupt patient care.

Sen. Warnock emphasized that protecting diagnostic testing is essential for early detection and treatment of serious conditions, particularly in underserved communities. The legislation is also backed by bipartisan co-sponsors who highlight the importance of sustaining access to accurate, affordable laboratory services for Medicare beneficiaries.

The American Clinical Laboratory Association (ACLA) applauded the introduction, noting that the RESULTS Act would provide much-needed stability for clinical laboratories and help ensure that patients—especially seniors—receive timely access to critical tests.

If enacted, the bill would represent a significant step toward modernizing Medicare’s approach to laboratory reimbursement and reinforcing the role of diagnostics in improving patient outcomes.
