The following information establishes Humana’s Medicare Advantage and commercial policy for ensuring that payment is made to the appropriate provider for the technical component of pathology services. Under Original Medicare, a pathologist or independent laboratory may not bill for, or receive payment for, the technical component of pathology services furnished to a hospital patient. Humana has established Medicare Advantage and commercial policy for ensuring that payment is made to the appropriate provider for the technical component of pathology services.
