CPT code 87660 linked to revenue codes 300/306/309
May 28, 2014Effective July 1, 2014, the Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP) will link CPT code 87660 ‒ Infectious agent detection by nucleic acid (DNA or RNA); Trichomonas vaginalis, direct probe technique to the following revenue codes:
- 300 ‒ Laboratory-General
- 306 ‒ Laboratory-Bacteriology and Microbiology
- 309 ‒ Laboratory-Other Laboratory
These linkages apply to dates of service (DOS) on or after July 1, 2013. Beginning July 1, 2014, for reimbursement consideration, providers may bill CPT code 87660 and the revenue code together, as appropriate. Claims with DOS on or after July 1, 2013, that previously denied for explanation of benefits (EOB) 520 – Invalid revenue code and procedure code combination will be mass adjusted. Mass adjusted claims will begin appearing on the July 1, 2014, Remittance Advice (RA) and will be identified with internal control numbers (ICNs) that begin with region code 56.
