Drug Testing Code Changes for 2015
January 30, 2015New Drug Testing codes for 2015 are a combination of changes from the AMA for CPT codes and CMS for HCPCS codes. The majority of the time, these codes represent different, distinct, services without overlap. However, there are some instances for 2015 where the same basic service is represented by both a new CPT and a new HCPCS code. CMS has delayed pricing some of the newly created CPT codes and have issued instructions that they will be reimbursing based solely on the “G” (HCPCS) codes submitted for the Drug Testing service. These “G” codes have equivalent CPT codes that providers may choose to submit as well. In order to prevent duplication of payment for these services, BCBSNC is providing a crosswalk of the affected codes and communicating their intent in the processing of payment for these services.
