ELECTRONIC REOPENING SUBMISSION

Effective July 9, 2012, WPS Medicare is implementing a new additional method for submitting Clerical Error Re-openings electronically via an e-mail request. Although the Clerical Error Reopening process is not a part of the formal appeals process, it allows a provider to make a minor change to a previously filed claim, if the original claim has been denied or reduced. This method will allow for the expedited processing of Clerical Error Reopening requests that involve multiple services. Items that qualify for the electronic reopening e-mail process are: DOS change, POS change, Procedure code change, modifier change, Quantity billed change, Billed amount change and Addition of diagnosis. WPS Medicare: MAC J5 contract, administering Part A and B benefits in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska ; Legacy Medicare Part B administering Part B benefits in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota ; future MAC J8 contract, administering Part A and B benefits in Indiana and Michigan
