Every Woman Counts Update for Cervical Screening
March 1, 2014Every Woman Counts (EWC) covers Human Papillomavirus (HPV) co-testing in combination with cytology (Pap test) at 5 year intervals for EWC recipients 30 years of age and older, effective retroactively for dates of service on or after July 1, 2013. CPT code 87621 (infectious agent detection by nucleic acid [DNA or RNA]; papillomavirus, human, amplified probe technique) is reimbursed by EWC when billed with ICD-9-CM diagnosis code V73.81 (special screening examination for human papillomavirus [HPV]), for EWC recipients 30 years and older. Providers of EWC services whose claims were denied for provision of HPV co-testing to eligible recipients for dates of service from July 1, 2013, to January 27, 2014, may resubmit those claims.
