Florida Blue to Use New AI Tool for Prior Authorizations

GuideWell’s subsidiary, Florida Blue, will become the first US payer to automate prior authorization approvals through a new artificial intelligence-powered clinical reviews tool developed by health technology company Olive.  

The prior authorization process tends to be time-consuming and inefficient for both providers and payers, requiring phone calls and faxes to exchange patient medical records. Incomplete or inconsistent data can result in significant healthcare and authorization delays.

GuideWell’s health plan companies receive hundreds of thousands of prior authorization submissions. The new partnership aims to move prior authorization decision-making to the point of care with Olive’s AI platform.

The solution will allow members to receive authorizations faster by giving providers immediate approval from GuideWell when Olive’s AI system determines the authorization request meets the necessary medical requirements.
