Low-Dose CT for Lung Cancer Screening: New Benefit
December 24, 2014Effective retroactively for dates of service on or after October 1, 2014, HCPCS code S8032 (low-dose CT lung screening) is a new benefit. The National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) recommends a low-dose computed tomography (CT) for lung cancer screening for recipients who meet the following criteria:
- Current or former smokers, 55 to 74 years of age
- A smoking history of at least 30 pack-years (a pack-year is the calculated equivalent of smoking 20 cigarettes every day for one year)
- No history of lung cancer
Claims for this code will be reimbursed “By Report” and must include an invoice.
