UHC – Training for the Genetic and Molecular Lab Testing Program Process

Starting June 1, 2021, we will begin managing prior authorizations for genetic and molecular tests. This change will impact the process for requesting prior authorization and registering lab tests. Here is where ordering providers and laboratories can find more information: 

Training and information for requesting prior authorization

• Starting June 1, 2021, ordering providers will use the Prior Authorization and Notification self-service tool to request prior authorization, or call 877-303-7736
• New information: Visit the genetic and molecular lab testing notification/prior authorization page for training and information, including:
  • An Interactive Guide for Prior Authorization and Notification
  • Registration for live training sessions that begin the second week of May
  • Frequently asked questions

Training and information for lab test registration

• Each laboratory should review and confirm the accuracy of genetic and molecular lab test information in the UnitedHealthcare laboratory test registry by June 1, 2021
• Visit the laboratory test registry page for training and information, including:
  • Frequently asked questions about genetic tests in the laboratory test registry
  • Registration for live training sessions on how to register lab tests
  • Lab test registry quick reference guide and lab test registry tool
