5010 Change for Not Otherwise Classified Codes

Currently, in 4010 transactions, when submitting unclassified or not otherwise classified (NOC) procedure codes, you must send a description of the service. With the implementation of 5010; both the 837I and 837P require that when a nonspecific or NOC procedure code is used, then a description is required. This change affects HCPCS codes that contain verbiage such as: • NOC – not otherwise classified • NEC – not elsewhere classified • NOS – not otherwise specified • NES – not elsewhere specified • NOR – not otherwise reported
