CA Representative Reintroduces Precision Medicine Access Bill

November 7, 2019

California representative Eric Swalwell recently reintroduced the bipartisan Advancing Access to Precision Medicine Act, which aims to increase the use of genomic and genetic testing for pediatric patients with rare diseases.

The act would pilot-test whether Medicaid coverage of a variety of genetic and genomic sequencing for children would improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.

Additionally, the bill would have the Department of Health and Human Services working with the National Academy of Medicine to study how genomic and genetic testing impact patient health, and how the federal government could eliminate barriers to the use of genomic and genetic testing.
