Corrected Ultrasound Billing Policy for Multiple Gestations

Effective retroactively for dates of service on or after September 22, 2003, ultrasound billing policy is corrected to reimburse multiple gestations when CPT code 76816 (ultrasound, pregnant uterus, real time with image documentation, follow-up) is billed in conjunction with modifier 59 (any modifier position 1 – 4), even when paid in history on the same date of service. Affected claims will be reprocessed via an Erroneous Payment Correction (EPC) for dates of service on or after September 22, 2003. No action is required of providers.
