Family PACT: Secondary Diagnosis Code Policy for Human Papillomavirus Test

Effective for dates of service on or after September 1, 2008, secondary diagnosis ICD-9-CM code 795.00 (abnormal glandular Papanicolaou smear of cervix) is acceptable to use on claims for 87621 (infectious agent detection by nucleic [DNA or RNA] papillomavirus, human, amplified probe technique). Claims for code 87621 without an S-code in the primary diagnosis field, and an acceptable secondary diagnosis code in the secondary diagnosis field, will be denied.
