IHCP will mass adjust claims for discontinued HCPCS codes that paid inappropriately

May 17, 2016

The Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP) has identified a claims processing issue that affects certain claims for discontinued Drug Testing HCPCS codes. As announced in IHCP Bulletin BT201621, the IHCP discontinued several codes per the 2016 annual HCPCS update (G6030-G6058), effective for DOS on or after January 1, 2016. In error, these drug testing codes were not end-dated in the claims processing system in a timely manner, resulting in inappropriate payments to providers. The claims processing system has been corrected. Claims for these codes that paid for DOS on or after January 1, 2016, will be mass adjusted. Providers should see the adjusted claims on Remittance Advices (RAs) beginning June 14, 2016, with internal control numbers (ICNs) that begin with 56 (mass adjusted). If a claim was overpaid, the net difference appears as an accounts receivable. The accounts receivable will be recouped at 100% from future claims paid to the respective provider number.
