Medicare Approves New Technology Add-on Payment for Inpatient Radiology AI Solution

Medicare approved a temporary inpatient add-on payment of up to $137.53 per case for Aidoc’s AI tool, which analyzes CT scans and flags potentially urgent findings such as appendicitis and bowel obstructions. Beginning October 1, eligible hospitals can receive the additional payment for three years, helping offset approximately 65% of the technology’s average cost. The approval creates a clearer reimbursement pathway for diagnostic AI, although CMS plans to apply stricter clinical-improvement requirements to new applications beginning in fiscal 2028.
