Multi-biomarker Disease Activity Blood Tests for Rheumatoid Arthritis (LAB.00035)

This new coverage guideline addresses the use of multi-biomarker disease activity (MBDA) blood testing that produces a score designed to assess rheumatoid arthritis disease activity. The use of multi-biomarker disease activity blood testing for rheumatoid arthritis (for example, Vectra DA) is considered investigational and not medically necessary in all situations. Effective January 1, 2018, CPT code 81490 will be subject to review of this new coverage guideline.
