Revised article: Eligible Physicians and Non-Physician Practitioners who need to Enroll in the Medicare Program for the Sole Purpose of Ordering and Referring Items and Services for Medicare Beneficiaries

In recent announcements and materials, CMS incorrectly included chiropractors in the list of physician and practitioner types that may order and refer items or services to Medicare beneficiaries. Doctors of chiropractic medicine are not eligible to order and refer. This article was revised on August 15, 2011, to delete chiropractors from the list of providers who may order and/or refer services.
