The American College of Radiologists Warns HHS that Insurance Company Practices Could Have “Devastating Impact” on Physicians
July 23, 2024The American College of Radiology (ACR) joined the American Society of Anesthesiologists and American College of Emergency Physicians to issue a warning that insurance company “profiteering” through shared savings programs is severely impacting physician practices. These programs incentivize third-party administrators (TPAs) to reduce payments to radiologists, undermining physician networks and escalating No Surprises Act arbitration cases. Smaller radiology practices are particularly affected, lacking the resources to appeal these tactics. The ACR urges the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and other relevant departments to regulate these practices to prevent further harm. Without intervention, patient access to radiology services and the long-term viability of radiology practices are at risk.
