XiFin Inc. CEO to speak at Executive War College Conference
April 14, 2009XiFin’, Inc., the leading provider of revenue cycle management for diagnostic laboratories, announced today that XiFin’s CEO and Executive Chairman, Lale White, will speak at the Executive War College Conference in New Orleans on April 28th 2009. In attendance will be senior executives, laboratory administrators and pathologists from many of the nation’s largest laboratory organizations.
The Executive War College is a two-day program with a single objective: to help laboratory administrators and pathologists learn practical methods for improving the organizational performance and financial success of their laboratories. Mrs. White will discuss the conversion of the International Statistical Classification of Disease and Related Health Problems (ICD) from version ICD-9 to ICD-10 and what laboratories and pathology groups must know to properly prepare for this change.
The ICD classifications are alphanumeric codes that represent any known disease, condition, or circumstance that has or could cause a person’s death. The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) publishes a version of the ICD to include diagnostic and operative procedures, which is used for health records, reimbursement systems, and public data. On August 21st, 2008, the HHS proposed new code sets to be used for reporting diagnoses on health care transactions. Under the proposal, the ICD-9-CM code sets would be replaced with the ICD-10 code sets, effective October 1, 2013. With 17,000 diagnosis codes, ICD-10 will be much more complex and require more training of laboratory staff and office staff of referring physicians.
“The conversion from ICD-9 to ICD-10 is likely to be both disruptive and expensive for diagnostic laboratories”, said Lale White, XiFin’s CEO and Executive Chairman. “However, with proper planning and automation, laboratories can benefit from the greater accuracy of the ICD-10 diagnostic codes to document their contribution to improving patient outcomes, lowering the costs of healthcare, and improving reimbursement”.
“We are excited to have Lale speak at the 2009 Executive War College”, said Robert Michel, Editor of the Dark Report and leading Pathology Management Expert. “Lale is nationally-recognized for her expertise in Laboratory Billing and serves regularly on national advisory panels. For this reason her insights about the best way to implement ICD-10 will be invaluable for clinical labs and pathology groups that want to achieve this goal with minimal trouble and expense.”
XiFin currently processes over 3 million ICD-9 based laboratory claims per month on behalf of some of the country’s largest Clinical, Molecular, Anatomic Pathology, and Radiology laboratories and has a track record of proactively ensuring clients are ready for the continuous change in the laboratory environment. Such changes have included the recent NPI (National Provider Identifier) conversion and the new MAC (Medicare Administrative Contractor) contract awards where XiFin contracted laboratories experienced little to no disruption of claims processing.
